Most lists of video conferencing software are written for US buyers, then given a rupee sign. That misses the details that decide a real purchase in India: GST invoicing, monthly billing, data location and whether webinars become a separate subscription.
The better question is simple: who joins your meetings, and on whose device? If meetings are internal on managed company laptops, use the platform already included with your office suite. If they include customers, patients, students, channel partners or government counterparts, browser-based joining becomes far more important.
What browser-based video conferencing means
Browser-based platforms use WebRTC to run video, audio and screen sharing in current browsers. The guest opens a link, allows camera and microphone access, and joins without an installer, admin rights or version matching.
There is an important difference between a browser-native product and an app-first product with a web fallback. Both may say “join from your browser”, but the experience is not necessarily equal. Test the exact guest journey on a phone and laptop before you buy.
Eight criteria that predict fit in India
- Guest join friction. Count the clicks and decisions between receiving the invite and entering the room. Test with someone who has no account.
- INR billing and GST invoicing. A GST invoice with a valid GSTIN matters because eligible businesses can claim input tax credit. Check the currency, tax treatment and invoice before comparing headline prices.
- Contract term. Monthly billing protects cash flow and makes it easier to leave a poor fit. Check whether INR pricing requires annual prepayment through a reseller.
- Webinar economics. Ask whether webinars are included or sold as another per-host product. This is where a low headline price often becomes a larger budget.
- Recording and storage. Confirm the storage allowance, access controls and export rules. Recording is often restricted to higher plans.
- Infrastructure evidence. Ask vendors how they handle capacity, reliability and support. A clear answer matters more than a generic security badge.
- Mobile and bandwidth behaviour. Test on mobile data, not only office fibre. Indian teams join from clinics, campuses, sites and travel.
- Cost per host. Most platforms charge for hosts, not every employee. Attendees usually join free, so avoid buying licences for people who only attend.
Platform comparison
AONMeetings India, best for included webinars and cost per feature
AONMeetings is browser-native for hosts and guests. It includes HD video and audio, screen sharing, whiteboards, polls, recording, virtual backgrounds, waiting rooms, moderator controls and custom branding.
For Indian buyers, its commercial structure is the differentiator. Webinars are included on every plan, rather than sold as a separate core product. Plans are billed monthly in INR, GST is applied at checkout, GST invoices are available, and UPI is supported. Current plans are exclusive of GST:
| Plan | Price per host/month | Participants |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹179 | 10 |
| Professional | ₹359 | 25 |
| Business | ₹629 | 100 |
| Enterprise | ₹1,522 | 250 |
Large-event capacity is available from ₹5,240 per month for 500 attendees, or from ₹5,714 for a one-time 500-attendee event. That is useful for organisations that run a handful of large sessions each year rather than a recurring twelve-month programme. See the India pricing page for current limits.
Trade-off: it is a dedicated meeting and webinar platform rather than an office suite, and the Starter plan is best for one-to-one work and small groups.
Zoho Meeting, best for established Zoho customers
Zoho Meeting is a sensible choice when your CRM, calendar and daily work already live in Zoho. Its ecosystem connections can outweigh a small pricing difference. The key question is whether the meeting plan and webinar plan you need are priced separately, so compare the total host cost before deciding.
Jitsi Meet, best free and open-source option
Jitsi Meet has no licence fee and can be self-hosted, making it a practical option for technical teams, educational projects and organisations with real engineering capacity. The trade-off is responsibility: self-hosting, support, availability and governance become your work rather than a vendor’s service commitment.
Google Meet, best for Google Workspace teams
Google Meet works well when a team already pays for Google Workspace and schedules through Calendar. It is easy to adopt internally. Before choosing it for external meetings or recorded sessions, confirm the specific Workspace tier, guest permissions and recording entitlement you need.
Microsoft Teams, best inside Microsoft 365
Teams is a natural internal choice for organisations already standardised on Microsoft 365. It is strongest when colleagues, identities and calendars are already managed in that environment. External guests should be part of the evaluation, because tenant permissions and app prompts can complicate joining.
Zoom, capable but not browser-first
Zoom is familiar to many attendees and remains a legitimate choice where that familiarity matters most. It is worth pricing the full requirement, including webinar capacity, recording and the billing route, rather than comparing only its meeting plan.
What changes when guests are outside your organisation
Internal software decisions are mostly about administration. External meeting decisions are about confidence. A student joining a class, a patient joining an appointment or a customer joining a sales call should not need to understand your software procurement decision before they can speak to you.
That does not mean every external meeting needs the same controls. A public webinar may need registration, moderation and recording. A healthcare consultation may need a waiting room, access controls and clear rules for recordings. A sales demo may need screen sharing and a simple way for the buyer to join from a phone. The best platform is the one that supports the intended experience without adding unnecessary steps.
How to compare total cost, not just the lowest price
Build a twelve-month comparison for the people who actually host meetings. Include the base host licence, webinar capacity, recording storage, any required higher plan, GST and any annual prepayment. A platform that looks inexpensive for a ten-person internal call can become expensive when you add a recorded customer webinar every month.
Also separate a genuine free option from an unsupported one. Jitsi can be a strong choice when you have people to host, secure and support it. It is not automatically less expensive when a small team must spend its own time maintaining the service. The commercial price of a managed platform includes a clear support and accountability path.
Questions to ask before signing
- Can an external guest join from Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox without creating an account?
- Which features work in the browser, and which require a desktop application?
- Is webinar capacity included, or does it require another licence?
- Will the invoice show INR, GST and the correct GSTIN details?
- Can a recording be downloaded, and who can access it?
- What is the monthly commitment, cancellation process and support path?
- Can we test this with a real external guest on mobile data before purchasing?

How to run a real evaluation
- Shortlist three platforms using hard filters such as webinar capacity, participant limits or GST invoicing.
- Run your hardest recurring meeting on each one, not a comfortable internal test.
- Have an external guest join from an unfamiliar device on mobile data.
- Record a session and check where the file lands, who can access it and whether it can be downloaded.
- Price twelve months including webinars, storage, add-ons and GST.
- Raise a real support request during the trial, because that is the service experience you will rely on later.
Why AONMeetings India fits this evaluation
