Change Your Background and Apply Visual Effects Print

You can personalize how you appear in meetings by changing your background or applying visual effects such as blur or filters.


⚠️ Note: Some effects may not be available on older devices or in low-bandwidth conditions.

Use Background Effects

You can apply visual effects before or during a meeting.

Before the Meeting Starts

  1. On the meeting preview screen, click Background.

  2. Choose one of the following:

    • Blur: Softens your background while keeping you in focus.

    • Preloaded Backgrounds: Select from built-in images.

    • Upload Your Own: Click Upload Image to use a custom background.

  3. Click Join Meeting when you’re ready.


During a Meeting

  1. In the call, click More on the bottom left

  2. Select Backgrounds & Effects.

  3. Choose a blur, background, or filter option.

  4. Your selection will apply immediately.

System Requirements for Using Visual Effects

To ensure a smooth experience with visual effects, your device should meet the following minimum requirements:

Enable Graphics Acceleration

Turn on graphics acceleration on Windows or Mac: 

  1. At the top right of a Chrome window, click Menu  Click Settings.
  2. On the left, click System .
  3. Turn on Use graphic acceleration when available.
  4. Restart Chrome.


Check WebGL Support

Check if your browser supports WebGL at webglreport.com and verify that “Major Performance Caveat” is marked as “No”. Your browser might disable WebGL if the device is unstable or cause crashes. You can’t enforce WebGL on unstable WebGL devices. In some cases, it may help to update graphic card drivers or restart your browser. Learn more about WebGL support.
